NSW government agencies may have to report data breaches

IT News is reporting that Labor has introduced a bill into the NSW parliament which would force state government agencies to report all data breaches. The bill has similar requirements to the federal Data Breach Notification law which come into effect on 22nd February 2018 and is in line with the 2015 recommendation from the NSW Privacy Commissioner. A large obstacle to being sure of compliance with any privacy reporting requirements remains a lack of overarching knowledge about what data government agencies actually hold, and in what format they store it.
