New push for mandatory data breach notification in NSW

IT News reports that the NSW opposition has restarted a process to introduce mandatory data breach notification laws in the state. A mandatory data breach notification bill lapsed in the last session of Parliament but the shadow Attorney-General has indicated that the opposition would be reintroducing a similar bill during the current session.

The federal government has a mandatory data breach notification law applying to regulated entities under the OAIC, but in NSW only a voluntary reporting scheme exists.
